Suspend SC is a suspension concentrate that lays down pure deltamethrin micro-crystals on the surface, rather than soaking into it. It dries completely clear and odorless, and holds up for roughly three months of continuous protection.
Both Demand CS and Suspend SC are pyrethroids, a class of insecticide that targets the nervous system of insects specifically. On contact, they bind to sodium channels in an insect's nerve cells and hold them open — something that normally only happens for a split second during a nerve signal. That keeps the nerve firing uncontrollably, which leads to paralysis and death, usually within minutes to a few hours.
Insects are far more sensitive to this effect than people or pets, which is why pyrethroids are among the most widely used pest control products in homes across North America. Both products are registered for residential use, and treated surfaces are considered safe for kids and pets once the application has fully dried.
Tick populations in Ontario are growing — and so is the health risk that comes with them.
Longer, hotter summers and milder winters — driven by climate change — let ticks survive, reproduce, and spread further north than they ever could before. Areas of Southern Ontario that rarely saw ticks a decade ago now have established populations.
Early symptoms often include a bullseye-shaped rash near the bite, along with fever, chills, headache, fatigue, and joint or muscle aches — though not everyone who's infected gets a visible rash. Caught early, Lyme disease is treatable with antibiotics, which is exactly why quick tick checks and removal matter.
The lone star tick isn't yet established in Ontario, but its range has been creeping north, with detections already reported in parts of Southern Ontario. Its bite can trigger alpha-gal syndrome — a delayed allergic reaction to red meat and other mammal products. Symptoms like hives, stomach pain, and in severe cases anaphylaxis, typically show up three to eight hours after eating meat, which makes the connection back to a tick bite easy to miss.
